Direct Questions

There are 2 basic ways of indicating a question in Latin.

Using

–ne,

num

nonne,

-ne just indicating a question, num expecting no, and nonne expecting a yes answer.

The other way is through using a question word:

Cur?          Why?

Quis?        Who?

Uter?         Which of the two?

Qualis?      Of what kind?

Quantus?   How great?

Ubi?          Where?

Unde?        From where?

Quo?         Where to?

Qua?         By what way?

Quam?       How?

Quando?    When?

Quotiens?  How often?

Exempli gratia:

Num Quintus colonus est?

Surely Quintus is (not) a farmer?

Quis oppugnavit Quintum?

Who attacked Quintus?
